Last year I had to move out of state for work. It was a pretty good promotion, but I really hated leaving everything that was familiar to me. The job was in a town far away from any big cities, and I’ve always been a city girl, so this was pretty alien to me. I was able to find a grocery store and a stylist I liked eventually but they don’t have a movie theater or a gym. Working out has always been my way to burn off steam and just because this job is in the middle of nowhere doesn’t mean it isn’t stressful.
It didn’t take long for me to decide I needed to buy more DVDs and a treadmill. I don’t like getting out and running around the neighborhood because when there’s bad weather my workout is canceled. I got a Life Fitness 9500 HR treadmill because that’s the kind I used to prefer at the gym. Even if there was a line I was willing to wait for that one because it made my workout easier and more efficient. When you work out you should be able to work your muscles, not just fight with the machine and stress your joints. I realized pretty quickly after I got my machine that having a treadmill at home is much better than going to the gym. I really enjoy being able to exercise in my own environment on my own time. I don’t have to wait for the equipment and I exercise a lot more because it’s so much more convenient.
It took a while for me to adjust to this move. I really love this job but I really miss my family too. Being away from the city was one of the biggest adjustments but in the end there’s some good about being away from it too. The best part is I discovered it’s much more effective for me to work out at home and I can even watch those new DVDs from my treadmill.
